Bad Medicine Campground 

Kootenai National Forest in Montana

Bad Medicine Campground is located in the Kootenai National Forest, which is in Northwest Montana.  This campground is in the vicinity of the Ross Creek Cedars Scenic Area - a rain forest type area with giant cedar trees.


This Montana campground is located on the shore of Bull Lake with some campsites overlooking the lake.  It is heavily wooded with cedar and hemlock trees and is an awesome place for camping vacations.

About the Campsites:


Bad Medicine Campground offers basic facilities including picnic tables, campfire rings with a grate, wheelchair accessible vault toilets and drinking water.  The fee for this forest service campground is about $10 per night.  Your Golden Age Passport will give you a 50% discount.


There are no hookups available at this campground.


A host is available to answer questions and give information and sometimes they have firewood available.


Camp sites at Bad Medicine Campground cannot be reserved - they are on a first come, first served basis.

About Bad Medicine Campground

Bad Medicine Campground consists of 18 sites on 20 acres and is at an elevation of 2367 feet.  You will find 2 loops in this campground with some sites in the lower loop overlooking Bull Lake.


You will find a nice boat launch and a wheelchair accessible dock.  Fishing is good for brook trout, rainbow trout and bull trout - also kokanee salmon, large mouth bass, whitefish and perch.  Bull Lake is 7 miles long with lots of water recreation opportunities.


Pets are allowed here, but they must be kept on a leash.


The campground is managed from Memorial Day through Labor Day, but it is open year round, depending on weather conditions.  There is a maximum stay limit of 14 days at this campground.  The recommended maximum trailer length is 32 feet.


The roads and campsite spurs are paved.


A security gate is closed at 10:00 pm and opens again at 7:00 am.



Getting there:


Directions from Troy:  Go 3 miles south on highway 2, turn south on highway 56 and go 21 miles to the Ross Creek Cedars road, turn and go about 2 miles to the Campground.
