Ben Rover Cabin

Ben Rover Cabin in the Flathead National Forest of Montana

Ben Rover cabin is located in far northwest Montana close to Polebridge and Glacier National Park.

Polebridge is a remote outpost on the North Fork of the Flathead River and is one of the coolest places you'll ever see!  This tiny place, in the middle of nowhere has the best pastries you will ever eat - the huckleberry bear claws are my favorite.

The Ben Rover Cabin is only half a mile from this very special place, which is truly a step back in time.

The North Fork of the Flathead River is very popular for river floaters and rafters.

Glacier Park is only a stone's throw away with its awesome hiking trails and unforgettable beauty.

The cabin is used a lot in the winter time for snowmobilers and cross-country skiers.  It is a great place to warm up and spend a cozy night after riding all the trails around the area.

Getting to the Cabin

From Columbia Falls, go north on Nucleus Avenue.  Turn right at the stop sign on Railroad Street, which become North Fork Road.  Go 35 miles and turn right to Polebridge - go 1 mile and turn left to the cabin.  If you get into Glacier Park, you have gone too far.  Part of the North Fork Road is gravel and can be quite rough with washboards.  Just take you time and you will make it just fine!  The North Fork Road is plowed intermittently in the winter and it is recommended that you have 4 wheel drive and chains just in case!

Some Things You Might Need For Your Camping Trip To The Ben Rover Cabin

The beds in the Cabin come with mattresses, but no bedding.  Sleeping bags are the easiest method for transporting your bedding.  You don't need a cold weather sleeping bag because you won't be camping out in a tent while it's snowing - just a cool weather one should do.  Don't forget to bring your favorite pillows!

There were some dishes and silverware when we were here, but there's always a chance there won't be any.  You could use paper plates, but how much nicer it is to cut a steak or eat something juicy on a real plate or bowl and drink coffee out of a mug instead of a styrofoam cup.

Because there is no electricity at the Ben Rover Cabin, you will want to have some lights when it gets dark so you can read or play cards and games.  If it is nice, you might want to be out by the firepit and enjoy a campfire, so it is nice to have a light to see by.  When you are walking around in the dark - either inside or outside - you will want to have a flashlight.   A good hint is to have a small solar light - charge it up when the sun is shining - bring it inside and you have a nightlight.

You will need something to keep food and drinks cold - remember no electricity!.  Be sure and keep your coolers inside because of the grizzly bears.
