Dutch Oven Dump Cake
So Easy and So Good!

Here is a delicious dump cake baked in a Dutch oven and made with apples and a spice cake mix.

You have just finished a wonderful grilled pork chops dinner and now you want something for your "sweet tooth". Nothing is better than a Dutch oven dessert and you will love this one.

Apple Spice Dump Cake Recipe
Dutch Oven

  • 2 cans apple pie filling
  • 1 spice cake mix
  • 1/2 cup butter or 1/2 can lemon/lime soda
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts

Grease or spray a 12 - 14 inch Dutch oven on the sides and bottom. Pour the apple pie filling on the bottom and "dump" the spice cake on top. Cut the butter into very small pieces and sprinkle over the cake mix; or pour the lemon/lime soda evenly over the cake mix. Top with the chopped nuts.

Bake with 12 hot coals underneath and 16 on top for 40 minutes. Rotate the pot and lid in different directions every 15 minutes. If you want to cook it in your kitchen oven, bake it at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.

Peeking To See If It Is Done

Peeking at something while it is cooking is a temptation for everyone and this is no exception. The most important thing to remember when checking something cooking in a Dutch oven is to avoid getting ashes from the briquettes in the food. Two things are helpful for this - have a small whisk broom handy so you can brush off ashes before lifting the lid and the other thing is to have a Dutch oven lid lifter. These hold the lid straight so it doesn't tip when you are removing it. There is nothing worse than ashes in your food, so take care!

You will really impress your family and friends with this tasty Dutch oven dump cake, so try it soon!
