Howard Lake Campground

Montana Forest Service Campgrounds

Howard Lake Campground is located in the Libby Ranger District of the Kootenai national forest in northwestern Montana.  This campground is near the Libby Creek Gold Panning area if you would like to visit there.

It is heavily forested with spruce, larch, cedar and fir trees.  Bears and moose are commonly seen here.

Power boats are limited to electric motors on Howard Lake.

About the Campsites

Howard Lake Campground offers basic facilities including a picnic table, campfire rings with grates, accessible vault toilets and drinking water with a hand pump.

Fees are $8 per night and with a Golden Age Pass or Interagency Senior Pass, you get a 50% discount.

There aren't any hookups here and you cannot reserve the sites.

There is a host here to answer questions and give information and also to supply firewood if you don't want to gather your own.

You will find tent sites, as well as rv camping sites - but they are short.  The maximum recommended length for a trailer is 20 feet.

About the Campground

Howard Lake Campground consists of 10 sites and is at an elevation of 4100 feet.

The place has a security gate that is closed every night at 10:00 and opens again at 7:00 in the morning.

It is open from Memorial Day through September - depending on the weather, it can be used later.

There is a small boat launch, and a nice swimming area - you will also find 2 day use areas by the beach with tables and fire pits.

The road and camping pads are gravel.
