Lake Alva Campground

Lolo National Forest Montana Campgrounds

Lake Alva Campground is located in the Seeley Lake Ranger District of the Lolo National Forest in northwest Montana.

This Montana campground is home to nesting loons in May and June, which is a popular attraction - just remember not to bother them.

The lake is not visible from the campground, but it is just a short distance away.

You will find a nice swimming area with a sandy beach here, as well as a boat ramp.

About the Campsites

Lake Alva Campground offers basic facilities, including picnic tables, campfire rings with cast iron grates, handicapped accessible toilets, and drinking water.

The fee for this campground is $10 per night, with a 14 day maximum stay.  Your Golden Age Passport or Interagency Senior Pass will give you a 50% discount, so you pay only $5 per night.

Hookups are not available at this campground, but you can dump your holding tanks and fill with water at Lindsey's Steak House in Seeley Lake for just a small donation.

Individual campsites cannot be reserved at this campground - they are on a first come, first served basis.  Weekends and holidays fill up, so it would be good to get there early in the week - between 12:00 noon and 3:00 pm, you should be able to find a site.

There are 2 group sites which can be reserved - #42 has 5 vehicle parking spaces plus 3 tent sites and rents for $25 per night - #43 has 6 vehicle parking spaces plus 4 tent sites and rents for $35 per night.  Discounts do not apply to these group sites.  Click here to reserve one of these group sites:

A host is available at this campground to answer questions and give you information.  When we were there, firewood was not available to purchase - but you can buy it in Seeley Lake for $2 an armful. They can also help if you have an emergency

This campground has sites that will accommodate large trailers and rvs.

About the Campground

Lake Alva Campground has 41 campsites plus 2 group camping sites at an elevation of 4100 feet.  It is situated in a dense forest of larch, pine and fir trees to give shade and thick understory to give privacy and separation.

There are 2 big loops, with the host being in the first loop.

Even though the sites are not right on the lake, it is only a short walk to it where you will find a nice swimming area, as well as a boat launch.  The lake is popular for fishing - rainbow, cutthroat and brown trout, kokanee salmon and northern pike.

Pets are welcome at this campground - just remember to keep them on a leash.  This is important, not only for the protection of people and other pets, but also for their own protection.  You wouldn't want your dog to go chasing after a bear or a moose!

The campground is open all year and managed from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Trash collection is offered at this campground.

Bears are frequently seen in this area and proper food storage is required.

We really enjoyed our stay at this campground!
