River Point Campground

Lolo National Forest at Seeley Lake Montana

River Point Campground is located in the Seeley Lake Ranger District of the Lolo National Forest in northwest Montana.  Some sites are close to the Clearwater River where it flows into Seeley Lake and some sites are close to the Lake.

This is a really nice Montana campground and is very popular for families who want to be by the water - both the river and the lake.  Kids love playing in the water and riding their bikes on the paved loop.

River Point Campground is just 3 miles from the quaint little town of Seeley Lake and there is a nice museum at the south end of the town in the visitor's center.

Campsites are nestled in among larch, fir and pine trees.

About the Campsites

River Point campground offers basic facilities, including picnic tables, campfire rings with cast iron grates, accessible vault toilets and drinking water.

The fee for this forest service campground is $10 per night with 14 days maximum stay.  Your Golden Age Passport or Interagency Senior Pass will give you a 50% discount - you pay only $5 per night.

Hookups are not available at this campground, but you can dump your holding tanks and fill your rv with water at Lindey's Steakhouse in Seeley Lake - they just ask for a donation.

Individual campsites cannot be reserved at this campground - they are on a first-come, first-served basis.  If you arrive between 12:00 noon and 3:00 pm, you should have plenty of sites available to choose from.

You will find a host here to answer questions and give you information.  They don't offer firewood for sale, but it is available in town for $2 an armful.

The sites are good-sized with some being narrow and some double-wide.  There are a number of them that will hold large (40 feet) trailers and motor homes.

We stayed in #9 and it was just a short walk over to the lake where there is a beach and a picnic area.  The sites on the other side have good access to the Clearwater River.

When you are camping in Montana, you always want to have a jacket nearby because the weather can change in a hurry.  The nights also get cool and sometimes even cold.   A fleece jacket is one of the best types to have for camping and the Columbia ones are really good.  Click here to see Columbia fleece jackets for women, men, boys, girls.  And if you didn't find what you would like there - browse through the Columbia store at Amazon for lots and lots of items to choose from.

About the Campground

River Point Campground has 26 sites in a single loop - some are close to Seeley Lake and some are close to the Clearwater River.  They are all in thick larch, pine and fir trees.

Seeley Lake is very popular for water recreation - the water is quite warm, which is a plus when swimming or playing.

There is a nice beach and picnic area, a volleyball court and a group gathering area with a fire ring.  There is no boat ramp here, but there is one across the lake at Seeley Lake Campground, which is only a mile away from this one.

This campground usually fills up on weekends, so get your spot earlier in the week.

Pets are welcome here, but they must be on a leash - not only for the protection of other people and pets, but for their own protection.  You wouldn't want your dog to go chasing after a bear or other wild animal!

River Point Campground is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Campground gates are closed from 10:00 pm until 6:00 am - no worry about drive through traffic late at night.

Bears do visit in this campground occasionally - so remember not to leave food out when you go to bed or if you leave your campsite.

This is a really nice campground and if your family enjoys the water, you will love it - we certainly did!

Tennis shoes for everybody seems to be a given for camping.  They are the ultimate for running around - hiking - walking - playing - to keep your feet warm - and whatever else you might need them for.  They will dry without any damage if they get wet - you can wash them if need be - they are comfortable.  Overall - tennis shoes are just the ticket for camping.
