Seeley Lake Campground

Lolo National Forest Montana Campgrounds

Seeley Lake Campground is located in the Seeley Lake Ranger District of the Lolo National Forest in northwest Montana.  This campground is a favorite Montana campground for those who like to swim, float, water ski, fish or any other water activity.

Seeley Lake water can be warm, which makes it enjoyable for playing in the water.

The campsites are nestled in among tall larch, fir and pine trees with plenty of space between.  Some are close to the water and some a little farther away, but they are all just a short walk to the lake or the river.

Because this lake is so popular with Montana folks, it can get full on weekends - so plan accordingly.  There should be spaces available Monday through Thursday - especially if you arrive by 2:00 pm.  We came in here on Thursday about noon and there were many sites to choose from.

Bears are frequently seen in this forest service campground, so remember not to leave food out overnight or if you are away from your campsite.

Seeley Lake Campground is a nesting area for loons in May and June.  You may be able to see some, but please don't bother them!

About the Campsites

Seeley Lake Campground offers the basic facilities - picnic tables, campfire rings with cast iron grates, accessible vault toilets and drinking water.

The fee for these campsites is $10 per night - but if you have a Golden Age Pass or an Interagency Senior Pass, it is only $5 per night because you are entitled to a 50% discount.  The maximum stay is 14 nights.

You won't find any hookups at these sites, but there is an RV dump in town near the Boy Scout Road - at Lindey's Steak House.  You can also fill your RV with water and they ask for a small donation.

You will find a helpful host here to give you information about the area and to answer any questions you might have.  They don't sell firewood, but you can get it in town for only $2 an armload or you can gather your own a little distance from the campground.

Individual campsites cannot be reserved at this campground - they are on a first-come, first-served basis.  There should be plenty of sites to choose from if you arrive early in the day and before the weekend.

There are plenty of sites for large rigs and a few pull-through sites.

When you are camping near the water, it is a really good idea to have water shoes.  They are nice when you are putting in a boat - if there are rocks on the bottom - or even just to protect your feet.  Check out the many, many water sandal styles available at Amazon for men, women, girls and boys.

About the Campground

Seeley Lake Campground has 29 camp sites and is at an elevation of 3990 feet.  It is located on the west shore of Seeley Lake and is nestled among tall larch, fir and pine trees.  There are 2 loops with lots of space between sites.

You will find a nice beach and swimming area plus picnic grounds along the shore.  This is a quite popular place for water activities.

A boat launch will allow you to fish for trout, bass, northern pike, mountain whitefish and kokanee salmon.  You can also catch these from the shore.

This is a popular lake for water skiing and jet boats also.

Pets are allowed at this campground - but keep them on a leash.  That not only protects people and other pets, it will protect your own also.  It wouldn't be good for your dog to go chasing after a bear or other wild animal.

This campground is open from mid-May to mid-September.

Bears and moose are frequently seen in this campground, as well as deer.

This is a lovely campground with wonderful access to the water.  On weekends it can be crowded and noisy - so if this is a concern, it would be better to camp at River Point Campground just across the lake.
