Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

Delicious and Easy Camping Recipes


Slow Cooker Pulled Pork is an easy recipe that you can make on the campfire, in a Dutch oven, in a propane slow cooker, in an electric slow cooker, or in a 12 volt slow cooker.

Regardless of the cooking method you choose, slow cooker pulled pork is a tasty meal that is easy to fix when you are camping or at home.

Try it - it's sure to be a favorite!



Different Cooking Methods



Dutch Oven
- If using briquettes, put 3 on the lid and 9 underneath - replace them every hour or when they lose their heat. If using a campfire, place the Dutch oven on the campfire grate and keep it at a low simmer with kindling-sized pieces of wood - too much heat will burn it.

Electric Slow Cooker - If you are at home, electricity is no problem - if you are camping you will need an electric hook up. Cook on the low setting for 8 hours.

Propane Slow Cooker - These use the small 1 pound propane canisters - 1 canister will last 8 to 10 hours on a low setting. Plenty of time to get the pork cooked.

12 Volt Slow Cooker - These will plug into your cigarette lighter or any other 12 volt power supply. With the locking lid, you can cook as you travel down the road and your pulled pork will be ready to eat when you arrive.


What you need:



3 pound boneless pork shoulder roast - 2 onions, diced - 2 cups of water - 1 can of root beer or Dr. Pepper - 2 teaspoons of salt





How to make it:


Brown the meat in a little oil or shortening - add the rest of the ingredients and cook on low for 8 hours - remove from the pan and let cool - shred the meat - mix sauce with 1/2 cup of liquid remaining in the pan - stir to coat all the shredded pork - heat through - serve on toasted buns.

Slow cooker pulled pork sauce variations:

Super Simple: 1 bottle BBQ sauce plus 1/2 cup of liquid left in the pot.

Beyond BBQ Sauce: 1 bottle BBQ sauce - 1/2 cup chicken broth - 2 tbsp. prepared yellow mustard - 1 tbsp. honey - 1 tbsp. soy sauce - salt and pepper to taste.

Southern Style: 1 cup prepared mustard - 1/2 cup sugar - 1/4 cup brown sugar - 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar - 1/4 cup water - 2 tbsp. chili powder - 1 tbsp. worcestershire sauce - 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper - 1 tbsp. soy sauce - 1 tbsp. liquid smoke.

Spice It Up: 1 cup vinegar - 1 cup ketchup - 1/2 cup water - 1/4 cup diced onion - 2 tbsp. minced garlic - 2 tbsp. butter - 2 tbsp. molasses - 2 tbsp. mustard - 2 tbsp. brown sugar - 1 tbsp. worcestershire sauce - 1 tbsp. paprika - 1 tbsp. chili powder - 2 tsp. oregano - 2 tsp. thyme - 1 tsp. salt

Easy Barbecue Sauce: 1 1/2 cups vinegar - 1/2 cup ketchup - 1/2 cup water - 1 tbsp. sugar - 1 tsp. salt


Tips for slow cooker pulled pork

A boneless shoulder pork roast works the best

If cooking on a campfire, be sure to use very small pieces of wood so you don't burn it.

Using 2 forks is the easiest way to shred the meat.

Cook the meat until it is tender before you add the sauce.

Use leftovers - if there are any - in tacos or green salad.
